OCD

OCD ( Obsessive-compulsive Disorder )

Obsessive compulsive disorder can occur in both children and adults. It is characterized by obsessions (repeated thoughts or images which cause distress) and compulsions (repetitive behaviors or rituals) These symptoms are often associated with significant anxiety and depression. The affected individual often fears that he is "'going crazy." Obsessions may often involve thoughts which seem unacceptable to the individual, so that he or she feels ashamed. Because of this, many people keep their thoughts a secret and suffer silently. In the past decade, there have been advances in the behavioral and pharmacological treatment of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder.
