Healing Thought of the Week: An Authentic Self Exists Despite Our Experiences

Looking back on my own trauma recovery history, one thing really stands out to me that I was surprised to learn.

I entered recovery believing I had be radically altered and would never be able to be happy, whole or even sane, again. By the time I finished my recovery and the process of writing my trauma recovery memoir, however, I had learned something

I have come to believe that a pure, untraumatized, authentic self exists despite our experiences; it is the part that wishes to be whole and free. Within this self, I believe, exists each individuals enormous healing potential.

This is why I so utterly believe in you.
