A few months ago, I received an email updating the progress of a veterans non-profit organization for which I’m on the advisory board, HOPE4PTSDVETS.ORG. Their mission is to offer Combat Trauma Wellness Retreats for veterans and their spouses/caregivers.
With their first retreat just around the corner, I would like to take this opportunity to share the information in that email as it is so exciting to see the work, commitment, and dedication of Founder, Kevin Taylor.
We are excited to make two announcements about the progress of HOPE4PTSDVETS.ORG’s mission in providing a Combat Trauma Wellness Retreat for veterans and their spouses/caregivers.
1. It has taken a year but we have completed all the paperwork, budgets, projections, research, and raised the funds necessary to apply for our Federal Tax Exemption status 501(c)3. The application has been sent in to the Internal Revenue Service and we are excited about moving forward with our mission.
2. We have a retreat venue and dates for our first retreat. Longhorn River Ranch has graciously agreed to allowing us to hold our first three retreats at their beautiful property for a very reasonable fee. I have attached multiple pics for you to enjoy and will be adding them and others to our Facebook page and website. The dates for the first retreat are Saturday, February 9th thru Friday February 15th. This, obviously, includes Valentines Day and we did this on purpose. What better week to begin our Retreat than one that includes a day that is designed to celebrate enduring love and commitment?
Our next financial goal is to raise $500 dollars as an initial deposit for the retreat venue and then the rest of the funds necessary to host 6 couples for the initial retreat. We will up that to 8 couples on the following retreats. Below is our submitted retreat budget per couple. The couples will be attending at no cost to them. We will be seeking corporate and private donations to cover the cost of the retreat. We will be breaking the cost up into various categories that companies and supporters can sponsor. For example, someone can sponsor a couple for the cost listed below but if they would like to just sponsor the food for the retreat that would be 6 x $350.00 = $2,100.00, or the Equine Therapy which is $1950.00, etc.
Program Room & Board Per Couple $900.00 Food Cost Per Couple $350.00 Equine Cost Per Couple $325.00 Counseling Cost Per Couple $200.00 Alternative Therapy Cost Per Couple(Reiki, Massage, Acupuncture) $300.00 Yoga Cost Per Couple $75.00 Meditation Training Per Couple $500.00 Mindfulness Training Per Couple $200.00 Art Therapy Cost Per Couple $125.00 Transportation Cost Per Couple $150.00 Administration Cost Per Couple(Marketing, Communications, etc) $300.00 Insurance Cost Per Couple $125.00 Miscellaneous Inventory Purchases Per Couple $100.00 Operations Cost Per Couple $100.00 TOTAL PER COUPLE COST PER PROGRAM $3,750.00 TOTAL COST FOR 6 COUPLE PROGRAM $22,500.00 ANNUAL COST @ 1 RETREAT PER MONTH FOR 10 MONTHS (NO JULY & AUGUST RETREAT) $225,000.00
We are very excited about the program we have designed and those professionals who have agreed to be part of the program. We are confident that we have put together a wellness strategy that will not only provide healing for veterans and their loved ones suffering from combat trauma but will also provide tools they can use on a daily basis to increase the quality of their personal and professional relationships, employment potential, and overall quality of life.
Please pass this exciting news along to anyone veterans or their loved ones you know who might be suffering. For this intial retreat we are seeking combat veterans and their spouses/loved ones living in the Austin, San Antonio, Houston areas. We will need to interview interested couples so if you know anyone in these areas, please have them reach out to me directly at the email listed below.
