PTSD Healing Thought of the Week: You Don’t Have to Wait Until You Hit Rock Bottom

For a really, really, really long time during my quest to put the past behind me I failed, miserably. As I say in BEFORE THE WORLD INTRUDED: CONQUERING THE PAST AND CREATING THE FUTURE,

I vacillated between feeling a little better and feeling a lot worse, going through the motions of a young woman’s life and suffering dire new inexplicable physical ailments or complete emotional meltdowns….. And then something in me snapped. Or, something decided it desperately wanted to be free.

That something, whatever it was, spurred me on to enter the most challenging phase of my recovery (one in which things got, oh, so much worse for a while!) and then out through the darkness into the light of my happy life.
If I were to do it all again, I would not have waited for the snap. I would have decided I wanted to be free no matter how difficult the journey and gotten started way earlier than I did. You don’t have to wait to hit rock bottom. You can decide today to go deeper into the work that needs to be done.

You have enormous healing potential. The goal is learning to access it.
Dig deep. You can do this. I believe in you!
