PTSD Survivor Poetry: ‘I Survived’

In our ongoing celebration of National Poetry Month, this week’s PTSD poem comes from Lorrie Toy…

I Survived

by Lorrie Toy

THE SUN CAME UP TODAY BUT MY PROBLEMS DIDN’T GO AWAY
MAYBE IT’S JUST ANOTHER CHANCE OR A TEST TO SEE WHERE I MIGHT GO
OR WHO I WILL BE
MAYBE GOD WANTS ME HERE TO JUST BREATHE AND NOT LIVE IN FEAR
SO I WIPE MY TEARS AND HOLD MY HEAD UP HIGH AND I TELL MYSELF
PLEASE DON’T CRY
EVEN THOUGH IT’S HARD TO BREATHE
I TAKE A DEEP SIGH
AND THANK YOU GOD THAT I DIDN’T DIE
