"Snake Pastor" Repents Bizarre Antics As Being "Not Scriptural",

Penuel Mnguni, General Overseer of End Times Disciples Ministries in South Africa has apparently repented.

For years, the controversial minister has made a name for himself by ordering his congregations to carry out bizarre stunts as part of his sermons.   These commands have included ordering female members of the congregation to "strip for deliverance", making the entire congregation masturbate in church, and to eat snakes which he told followers had been transformed into chocolate.    But his antics didn't stop there.   Mnguni also fed parts of a live rat to congregation members, drove a car over some of his members, and also locked another one in a freezer for thirty minutes.  In ordering the men and women in his congregation to masturbate, he said that the "holy fluid of masturbation would produce a sacrosanct fluid which would make the church floor as sacrosanct as heaven."   He also insisted that his that his crusade "started when I was teaching the word of God, Mark 16: 16 – 18, where it says: ‘he that believes in me, these signs shall follow them; they shall pick up snakes, they will even drink deadly poison and it shall not harm them. And also Romans 14, where it says to those who believe, to those who have a strong faith, they can eat anything. And to those who have weak faith, they can only eat vegetables."   Even after being arrested by police and facing outrage from religious and animal rights groups, Ngumi continued to insist that he was doing the will of God.

Which is why members of his congregation were shocked to hear him come forward at a prayer meeting held at The Synagogue, Church Of All Nations (SCOAN) in Nigeria where he prayed for forgiveness and deliverance. According to Ngumi, he had become inspired by the teachings of Prophet T.B. Joshua, star of Emmanuel TV in Nigeria to recognize that his previous teachings, and the dangers to which he subjected his followers, were due to his being possessed by a spirit that led him to proclaim things that were "not Scriptural."

He also stated that, "“SPCA opened a case against me, I was arrested then I was released. I came to realise that what I was doing was not written in the bible. I started watching Emmanuel TV, listening to prophet TB Joshua, I came to realise that what I was doing was not scriptural. I came to realise that It’s an attack. I came to TB Joshua to deliver me.”

This revelation was shared on the TB Joshua Ministeries Facebook page in a post titled, "SNAKE PASTOR’ GIVES PUBLIC CONFESSION" and has since become a well-published news story in South Africa and Nigeria.

While it remains to be seen what will be happening with the SPCA investigation,  some journalists aren't quite so forgiving.   One commentator wrote, "Seeing this, I was happy for the preacher because he would no longer make his church members do harmful things in the name of miracles.  But then, I started to think about his poor congregation. What happens to them? Do they also have to go for deliverance or the hospital now that they know better? What has to happen before people stop letting their preachers do weird, inhuman things to them? How long will it take for people to learn?
