Desipramine ( Norpramine, Pertofrane )

Desipramine ( Norpramine, Pertofrane ) a antidepressants from the heterocyclic antidepressants family of drugs. This drug is used mainly in the treatment of endogenous depression but is also used to reduce the craving for cocaine. It may also be used to treat associated depression. May be used to treat chronic pain syndromes or attention deficit disorder in children over six. It may also be used to treat resistant malaria or reduce binge eating in patients with bulimia.

Strengths:

Capsules:
25 mg, 50 mg

Tablets:
10 mg, 25 mg, 50 mg, 75 mg, 100 mg, 150 mg

Dosages: Actual dosage must be determined by the physician.

Oral:
Start: 25 mg 2 to 4 times daily.
Increases: 25 mg daily in intervals of one week.
Maintenance: 100 to 200 mg in 24 hours.
Maximum: 300 mg in 24 hours.

Warnings

The habit-forming potential is none. This drug if beneficial should be taken about six months, in a few up to a year.Do not take this drug if you are pregnant, try some non-drug alternatives.Do not take this drug if planning to become pregnant. Do not take if you are breast-feeding.

Do not give this drug to small children and in lower doses to adolescents. Children and adolescents should always be under the care of a child psychiatrist when taking this drug. If over sixty only use drug in small doses and with close monitoring of it's side effects. The elderly should be careful when standing, the blood pressure lowering effects of this drug may make them fall.

Do not use if: You had negative reactions to this drug or any drug in this class in the past.

Inform your Doctor if: You had negative reactions to this drug or any drug in this class in the pass. If you have epilepsy, glaucoma, cardiovascular, or thyroid disease. If you are taking any other prescription or nonprescription drug. If you plan to be under anesthesia or having any surgery in the next few months, also if you will be undergoing any medical tests.

Desipramine ( Symptoms or Effects )

Common: Blurred vision, constipation, drowsiness, dry mouth or low blood pressure.

Rare: Allergies, confusion, increased appetite, insomnia, racing heartbeat / palpitations, skin rashes, seizures, or sexual problems.

See physician always: Allergies, confusion, low blood pressure, skin rashes, seizures, or sexual problems.

See physician if severe: Blurred vision, constipation, drowsiness, dry mouth, increased appetite, insomnia, or racing heartbeat / palpitations.

See physician NOW: Allergies, confusion or skin rashes.

Stop taking and see physician NOW: Seizures.
