Singer and actor Demi Lovato has joined the Mental Health Listening and Engagement Tour to help raise awareness about mental health. Lovato has been openly forthcoming about her bipolar disorder. She speaks briefly about her battle with bipolar in a public service announcement video for the tour.
"Bipolar depression really got my life off track," Lovator says, "but today I'm proud to say I am living proof that someone can live, love, and be well with bipolar disorder when they get the education, support and treatment they need."
Lovato first revealed her mental illness, which also includes eating disorders, in a 2011 interview with People Magazine. She has since been outspoken on the struggles and triumphs of those who deal with a mental illness in their lives.
Lovato has also launched the Lovato Treatment Scholarship Program which helps those struggling with mental illness and finances get their treatments paid for.
